Abstract

A brief review of new and exciting areas of research will be given for several specialties of animal bioacoustics including passive acoustics: the use of animal sound production to assess species distribution, enumeration, and behavior; animal sonar: the abilities of marine species to modify sonar modalities in accommodation to variables in the physical environment; agroacoustics: the application of acoustical research to solve problems of biosurveys, diagnosis, and behavior associated with agricultural activities; animal hearing: new methods and findings; and high-frequency acoustics: applications to study (1) biomass patchiness, (2) climatic changes, and (3) in situ target strength measurements.
