Abstract

Hot stamping of non-rectangular steel sheets using resistance heating by local preheating was developed. In resistance heating of a non-rectangular blank, the temperature distribution becomes non-uniform because of the difference in the current density. The zone having large cross-sectional area was preheated by contact heating before resistance heating, and then the preheated blank was resistance-heated and hot-stamped. The effect of preheating on the temperature distribution after resistance heating was estimated by FEM simulation, and a hot stamping experiment using resistance heating by local preheating was carried out based on the results of simulation. The temperature distribution in the blank became uniform by preheating, and the whole hot-stamped part was sufficiently hardened.
