Abstract

Constructed in 1949 in the citadel of Mont-Louis in the French Pyrenees, this solar-powered death ray used concentrated photonic energy to melt just about anything that wandered into its 3,000°C beam. It was never used in combat due to an easily exploitable 12-hour safety lockout (otherwise known as nighttime) and was eventually repurposed to fire decorative pottery.
