Abstract

Hot deformation of an Al - 4.5 Mg alloy was studied in tension at temperatures of 663 K to 753 K and at strain rates ranging from 10-5to 10-1s-1. Large total elongations of 150 % - 180 % were obtained under deformation conditions for the appearance of yield point phenomenon, where the corresponding stress exponent was ~3. It was discussed that solute-drag dislocation glide mechanism can operate under these conditions and result in large tensile ductility. In addition, dynamic recovery also affects the hot ductility.
