Abstract
The Venezuelan modernist poet, novelist, political writer, critic and publisher, Rufino Blanco-Fombona, once accused Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree of plagiarism. In a study on Eugenio María de Hostos, Blanco-Fombona categorically states that the British actor, in his chapter “Hamlet From an Actor's Prompt Book”, copied his observations from the Puerto Rican's essay on Hamlet. The similarities between Hostos and his English copyist are of concept insofar as Shakespeare's genius and Hamlet's psychology are concerned, but there are also similarities of expression; that is to say, the same thoughts have been expressed in the same or similar phrases. These coincidences have but one name in all languages.
