Abstract
The fungus Leptolegnia, a mosquito pathogen, was tested against 5 species of mosquito larvae and on species of nontarget aquatic arthropods, including representatives of the following orders: Diptera, Odonata, Trichoptera, Plecoptera, Coleoptera, and Cladocera. None of the nontarget arthropods were infected by Leptolegnia. The mosquito species tested were Culex pipiens, Cx. salinarius, Culiseta inornata, Aedes taeniorhynchus, and Ae. triseriatus. Mosquito larvae of all species were susceptible, and mortality exceeded 80% in all species. The results indicate that Leptolegnia shows a high degree of specificity for mosquito larvae among arthropods but little specificity among the target species.
