Abstract

RNA from conditional -lethal mutants of phage f2 is infective on protoplasts of permissive bacterial hosts and not infective on nonpermissive hosts. Two types of mutants are distinguished by relative plating efficiencies on permissive hosts. One of the mutant types, when grown throfgh nonpermissive hosts, produces particles with defective RNA (not infective for permissive or nonpermissive hosts).
