Abstract
This chapter argues that the Hizmet movement draws on an understanding of tolerance more closely alligned with the more robust virtue of hospitality found in various religious traditions and far richer than the problematic modern Western conception of tolerance. The Hizmet practice of hospitality, theological in origin and goal, is focused on human flourishing and well-being in a way that enables positive engagement with other cultural and religious traditions. This chapter explores a range of virtues related to hospitality within the Hizmet movement and other religious traditions and references conceptions of the virtues developed in the Western philosophical tradition.
