Abstract

This article reviews the regulations for redesigning a hospital facility to the international levels. It evaluates the different building guidelines such as Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities by the American Institution of Architecture, Facility Guidelines Institute, Joint Commission, American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineering, Health Technical Memorandum, National Fire Protection Associations, Housing and Building National Research Center, and American Society for Healthcare Engineering. These organizations offer guidance and set standards for the construction of healthcare institutions by making them patient friendly and as safe as possible.
