Abstract

1.Identify the skills required in the role of the hospice medical director.2.Identify physical, psychological, psychiatric, social, cultural, and spiritual aspects of patient care.3.Discuss strategies for assessing and managing pain, other symptoms, and side effects based upon the best available evidence.4.Describe the hospice medical director's role on the interdisciplinary care team. This course is intended for hospice medical directors and for those interested in becoming medical directors. It provides information about the skills needed to overcome the clinical challenges that medical directors face on a daily basis. Topics include basic and advanced pain management, non-pain symptom management, psychosocial care, bereavement, spiritual care, ethical decision-making, and managing behavioral and emotional disorders.
