Abstract

In her article, Davianna Pōmaika'i McGregor, professor in the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of Hawai'i, addresses the role of the land in Hawaiian identity and culture while also examining the evolving threats to the landscape by industrial, governmental, and corporate pressure. These issues range from landownership to alternative energy development and military use, and shape the way Native Hawaiians interact, access, and engage with their homeland.
