Hong Kong’s Structural Relationship with the Central Government in Beijing after 1997

Abstract

n this brief article, I shall attempt to address Hong Kong's structural n (i.e., legal and administrative) relationship with the Central People's Government (CPG) after Hong Kong's reversion to China in 1997. In doing so, I shall consult the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), enacted by the National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing on 4 April 1990.' Because this is not a review of the Basic Law in general, I shall discuss only those provisions relevant to the topic of Hong Kong's structural relationship with the central government after 1997.
