Abstract

The conditions of formation of homogeneous magnetorheological media are discussed using, as an example, the compositions of polyvinyl alcohol with variable-valance metals (Cu, Ni, Co, Fe), some polyacids, and orthophosphoric acid. A comparative evaluation is made of the magnetorheological properties of the compositions depending on the introduced cations, inorganic and polymeric acids. The influences of the type and the concentration of components, the method of preparing the compositions, pH of the medium, the solution temperature, the shear rate, and the magnetic induction on the magnetorheological effect are discussed.
