Abstract

A pair of homochiral metal−organic frameworks [Cd((R)-HCIA) (1,4-DMIB)]·xGuest (1-D; (R)-H3CIA=(R)-5-(1-carboxyethoxy)isophthalic acid, 1,4- DMIB=1,1'-(2,5-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene)bis(4-methyl-1H-imidazole)) and [Cd((S)- HCIA)(1,4-DMIB)]·xGuest (1-L) were formed from Cd2+, H3CIA and 1,4-DMIB under solvothermal conditions, respectively. X-ray crystallography reveals they are enantiomers and exhibit three-dimensional dia frameworks. Moreover, four types of interesting helical chains based on Cd(Ⅱ) ions, HCIA2− ligands and or 1,4-DMIB ligands are found in their structures. Their thermal stabilities, solid-state circular dichroism (CD), and photoluminescent properties were also investigated. These results demonstrate that selection of chiral ligands is a key factor to gain helical HMOFs.
