De Homero a Platão, a cultura grega mostra-se completamente impregnada pelos efeitos da poesia na formação ética, política e pedagógica das crianças e dos jovens. Os relatos escritos de Homero são fundamentais para reconhecermos o valor do aedo como transmissor das leis e dos costumes em uma sociedade em que a escrita ainda não é predominante e as informações, normas e valores fundamentais são repassados através de seus cantos.
