Abstract

We first proposed in 1983 a plan for standardization of in-house information distribution networks called Home Bus System (HBS) to realize effective Home Automation (HA) in the world. In the HBS, digital data, audio and visual information of base-band and broad-band are transmitted on a single coax cable by frequency-division multiplex. In order to realize economical HA, a standard protocol for HBS was established and standardized interface LSIs were developed. These LSIs were incorporated into various equipment made by different manufacturers and usefulness of the HBS was verified by system experiments undertaken in two model houses. In this paper, the standard protocol and interface LSIs for the HBS base-band agreed on by many Japanese companies and a concrete control system for realization of HA are presented in detail.
