Abstract
Abstract In this chapter, we investigate holomorphic motions and their relationship to quasiconformal mappings. The main problem in the theory of holomorphic motions is that of extending them, and we show how this can be achieved in an equivariant way. We also show how holomorphic motions can be applied to Astala’s theorem on area distortion in the theory of quasiconformal mappings.
