Abstract

A holographic video system, displaying Fourier-transform-based computer-generated hologram (CGH) data is described. A Fourier-transform-based horizontal-parallax-only (HPO) CGH is basically a two-dimensional hologram. To expand a Fourier-transform-based HPO CGH, a new algorithm based on the ray tracing of a three-dimensional object is used. This algorithm can reduce the amount of data and calculation time of the CGH. The result of this algorithm is applied to a pulsed-laser holographic video system for reconstruction of a three-dimensional object. The experimental results are included; they show a good parallax image and illustrate the possibility of reducing the amount of data and calculation time of the CGH. An additional advantage of this system over the Fresnel hologram CGH is described as well.
