Abstract

From seeds of Holocalyx balansae Mich. holocaline, a new cyanogenetic glycoside, has been isolated by chromatography on silica gel. Holocaline is enzymatically split by emulsin into glucose, HCN and m-hydroxybenzaldehyde. According to its optical rotation, it represents the hitherto unknown diastereomer of zierine.
