Abstract

The article analyzes the legal aspects of ensuring the availability of clean water and sanitation for the population, which is one of the main goals set by the UN Sustainable Development Program. The author studied the main environmental problems related to the sector based on statistical data and cited the main international documents related to their solution. He also gave a legal description of concepts such as “drinking water”, “clean drinking water”, “quality drinking water”, and “necessary amount of drinking water”. The state of the water legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the regime of water protection zones, the rights of water consumption and water use, and the current legal regime of groundwater use are analyzed. This article, as doctrinal research, includes the analysis of international documents, national legal documents, scientific-legal, theoretical sources. In this article, the scientific concepts of the field, views, conclusions and opinions of theoretical scientists are studied. The article started with the study of the main cases related to the topic, continued with the development of scientific and theoretical concepts, and ended with putting some suggestions forward for improving the legislation in order to solve the existing problems.
