Abstract

The hole theory of liquids is applied to study recent data on isochores of methane using the quasichemical approximation. The rather small deviations from linearity of the isochores have significant physical implications. Around the critical temperature the correlation between holes becomes important and the assumption of the random distribution of holes is quite unsatisfactory for explaining the observed behavior of the isochores. The detailed form of the free volume is required to study the over-all behavior of isochores.
