Abstract
Two new tattooing methods, namely, the tattoo injector and the laser tattoo are discussed. These methods were investigated as possible replacements for the existing tattoo hammer which uses several digital alpha-numeric characters made out of 9·5 mm needles. As the hammer hits the animal, a stress is created, which may be a potential cause for the hog carcass to produce PSE (pale, soft, exudative) meat. The new methods eliminate these causes of stress.
