Abstract
This article contains the gait and the role of Hj. Syamsiyah Abbas in the fields of religion, education, social live, and politic. Hj. Syamsiyah Abbas is a female character whose name is not famous among the people in West Sumatera. However, during his lifetime, she never played a considerable role, ranging from establishing institutions education, take care of socio-religious organization, and take part in politics. Although she lived in the Perti, a socio-religious community, but she was not an exclusive and isolated from various things. In fact, she proved that a woman among Perti was able to break through the things that have been taboo, such as managing the school or joing into politics.
