Abstract

A decade has passed since UNAIDs issued its target challenge for HIV treatment by 2020: 90% of all people living with HIV know their status, 90% of people diagnosed with HIV are treated with antiretrovirals, and 90% of those receiving antiretrovirals are virally suppressed.1 Although ambitious, these targets challenged HIV programmes to monitor viral loads among their patients in treatment.
