Abstract

Earlier testing for HIV and prompt treatment has resulted in a fall in the number of HIV diagnoses and is having a positive impact on morbidity, mortality and quality of life for those living with HIV. AIDS‐defining illnesses are now rarely seen. In this article the authors describe the successes in the battle against HIV and highlight the challenges that remain.
