Abstract
Overview: This journal is a bit of an enigma. Is it an exciting new journal showcasing the best of Chinese paediatrics (buty written in English)? Is it the fabled elephants' graveyard of medical publishing, where case reports go to die? Or is it reall what it claims to be, a ‘world’ journal of paediatrics? And why does it keep showing up in my inbox, when I've never asked for it or paid a penny in subscriptions? Perhaps the most surprising thing about this journal is that you get more than you pay for (OK, I know that is not hard) – there is actually some decent stuff in here. A recent issue had review articles from authors in the UK, Spain and Switzerland, on a range of worthwhile topics, and original articles from seven countries, admittedly with a developing world bias. Only a third of the papers in the journal are from China. So, next time this crosses your desk, interrupt its journey from inbox to bin by unwrapping it and checking out the table of contents. Sample article title: ‘Why we are still doing so many exchange blood transfusions for neonatal jaundice in Nigeria?’ Scientific importance: General interest to paediatricians:
