Abstract
A partir do espetáculo teatral Traga-me a cabeça de Lima Barreto! (2017), um monólogo construído com fragmentos de memórias e textos ficcionais ou jornalísticos do escritor, o artigo explora os efeitos da encenação para iluminar a zona de sombra que se abateu sobre as décadas iniciais do século XX no Brasil, tanto na história nacional quanto na historiografia literária. São postos em evidência os elos entre racialismo, eugenia e biopolítica nas políticas públicas da modernização social e cultural estado brasileiro. Pretende-se, ao final, expor o racismo brasileiro como postulado estruturante da nossa sociedade moderna e a suas repercussões ou os efeitos do racismo na obra e, principalmente, na vida de Lima Barreto.
