History of the trial textbook compilation of the first and second editions of the college of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Abstract

A series of policies and measures to support the development of Chinese medicine were issued by the Chinese government after 1954, including offering courses for western medicine physicians to study Chinese medicine, establishing Chinese medicine colleges, and opening Chinese medicine classes in colleges of western medicine. High level unified Chinese medicine textbooks were required for teaching quality. The first edition of the textbook for Traditional Chinese Medicine was successfully compiled and published in 1959 by the Ministry of Health, with the title "Introduction of Traditional Chinese Medicine"(zhong yi xue gai lun). Based on the feedback of the first edition, the second edition of the textbook was revised comprehensively by the Ministry of Health and published in 1963, having far-reaching influence. Both editions of the state-compiled textbooks for the Colleges of Traditional Chinese Medicine solved the problem of textbooks for the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and also symbolised that the theoretical system of contemporary Chinese medicine had been shaped.
