Abstract

Lead, renowned for its malleability, enjoyed widespread popularity in dentistry due to its facile moulding properties. Throughout ancient times until the 18th and 19th centuries, lead found applications in dentistry for restorations and pulp capping. However, over the last 100-150 years, this once-prevalent dental filling material fell out of favour due to its propensity for discolouration and adverse health effects.
