Summary
The following sentence is often attributed to Charles Darwin: “It is not the strongest of the species that survive, or the most intelligent, but those most responsive to change”. As Darwin noticed, change has been an impelling force in the society since the beginning of mankind. The same should apply for the institutions and organizations created by man. The companies who are flexible enough to respond to the shifts in the market environment survive. The central theme of the paper is the development of forest enterprise management in Macedonia and the adaptation to changes throughout the history. The change has become a permanent phenomenon that has to be addressed and managed appropriately in order to ensure organizational survival. Because of the changes in technology, the market place, social values and work force created a dynamic and unpredictable environment especially for those organizations who are unable to respond to the changes and adapt
