Abstract

The unique interface of history, culture, environment and development should be addressed from the perspective of a bystander observing the last quarter century of transitions in culture and environment as a result of the belief in the power of an need for development in the two specified locations of the country. How the two biologically diverse and beautiful locations of the country - Kerala and Darjeeling - and their unique developmental history can throw light on the issue is what the paper attempts to negotiate.
