Abstract

Peter Armitage CBE recently passed away (February 2024). He was a pio¬neer in medical statistics and was best known for his innovative developments in clinical trial design and analysis, especially the use of sequential analysis and optimal stopping decision criteria. Sequen¬tial analysis was originally devised as a tool for industrial quality control, and it was Armitage’s genius to recognize its importance for medical research. This column includes tributes and memories of Armitage’s life and accomplishments.
