Abstract

Abstract Monitoring of blood glucose levels is an inevitable part of diabetes management. The last decade was marked by path-breaking and transformational changes in diabetes technologies that ushered in the introduction of a wide spectrum of glucose monitoring devices that are more reliable and user-friendly. This review describes the evolution of capillary glucose monitoring from simple urine sugar screening tests to reagent strip systems and to sophisticated glucose monitors over the past four decades since the introduction of the first glucose meter in 1970.
