Abstract
ESTABLISHMENT of the Regional Poultry Breeding Projects marked a real milestone in the breeding improvement of both egg and meat stocks. Some might question the amount of this progress which is attributable to these projects, but none would dispute the timeliness of their establishment and the progress that has been made since they came into being.For a five-year period during World War II progress had been slowed to a standstill but upon the return of many excellently trained scientists from duty with the armed services, progress literally exploded as these men with five years of intellectual and emotional maturity attempted to supply the demands of people who had been denied: (1) their full desires for food and clothing during the war period through rationing and (2) their needs for furniture, appliances, equipment, and hard goods due to competition with war material.Basic discoveries in genetics and breeding techniques which …
