Abstract

This chapter discusses the development of historical writing during the Six Dynasties Period (220–581). It covers the bibliographies compiled from the Han through to the Sui; the recording of the words and activities of the emperor; types of history; and the five surviving dynastic histories written during the Six Dynasties period: the Sanguozhi, Hou Hanshu, Songshu, Nan Qishu, and Weishu.
