Abstract

The chapter is focused on the media of Ukraine to examine the main modus of the Ukrainian discourse of history. The massive data has been created using almost 20 keywords regarding past events and phenomena of the history of the twentieth century. In the Ukrainian media, history is much less present than in the Polish media. It is explained both by the public discourse specific (especially regarding political and national subjects) and by the structure of the Ukrainian media. Three dominant ways to include history in Ukrainian media have been described: as past, as an element of present day, as a model for the future. The interpretation of the twentieth–century history and the related actualization of its significance are the crucial issues for understanding the peculiarities of Ukrainian historical media discourse.
