Abstract
The paper considers features of historical development and formation of Ukrainian folk icon painting. The periodization of icon painting is given. The paper investigates the process of creative interaction of the artistic trends in icon painting at different historical stages. Also, the paper researches the way artists direct their creativity to traditions of folk culture. The historical formation of Christianity in world’s ideological system is traced as well as historical, political and socio-cultural factors, that influenced the formation of Ukrainian folk icon painting.
