Abstract
This chapter describes the chronological development of insulation materials and systems, together with some of the key innovations in manufacturing. More details on the systems in widespread use today are found in later chapters. For the most part, it was the innovations in materials and manufacturing for form-wound stator groundwall insulation that paced the development of machine insulation systems. Thus, this chapter concentrates on stator groundwall insulation.
