Abstract

This chapter explains historical changes of the Japanese economy using statistical data. After World War II, the Japanese economy experienced rapid changes and remarkable progress, although it also experienced the bubble economy and prolonged stagnation. In an attempt to understand the historical changes, we discuss the labor force status, price increases, income and income distribution, structural changes, and international concern using figures and tables.
