Abstract

This chapter explores the historical trajectory of the presidential system debates in Turkey. It is noteworthy that in Turkish political life, from the day of the foundation of the republic until the first military coup (1960), despite the initial one-party and consecutive multiparty regimes, there were periods of strong party leaders, presidents and other political figures.
