Abstract

The article explores the geographical aspects of the history of the Chernomorian and Kuban Cossacks and their display by means of historical cartography. There are examples of errors occurring due to the researchers' inability to use methods of historical geography and cartography are given. The author draws attention to the mistakes of some Ukrainian historical atlases and Russian publications. The article contains samples of authors maps, which allowed to raise to a new level the study of administrative territorial division, geography and topography of the settlements of the Kuban region, the Holodomor of 1932-1933 and some other problems of regional history.
