Abstract

Scholars have begun to identify and understand some surprising and subtle contingencies of organizational learning from success and failure. The symposium gathers scholars involved in research on this topic and provides us with an opportunity to take stock of both what we have learned and new, emerging issues. The research conducted by the scholars in this session have each identified new historical or contextual factors that influence organizational learning across a wide range of industries and organizations. Many of these findings complement each other, while others appear to contradict each other. Gathering in a symposium format enables us to learn about these findings and also to begin a conversation that will help us to understand how these various findings can be reconciled and understood.
