Abstract
The topicality of the research is the determination of the historical and archival value of the 1944 archive documents of the executive committee of the Viesite City Council of Workers’ Deputies of Jēkabpils District. The aim of the article is to reflect the documents accumulated in the LNA Jēkabpils Zonal State Archive regarding the above-mentioned period of time and their historical and archival value. Tasks of the article: to reflect the criteria a document values, to reflect the composition of archival documents about the cases created in 1944. The article discusses the basic principles and criteria set out in the unified basic regulations of the State Archives of the Soviet Union approved by the USSR Council of Ministers, which had to be observed when determining the value of documentary material, preparing them for permanent storage in the state archives.
