Abstract

crypt epithelium. There were no significant changes in the villous architecture. The outer layer of the muscularis propria and the mesentery of all animals in group IV showed a mononuclear cell infiltrate and three of five of these animals showed vasculitis of the mesenteric arteries. Mean scoring is summarized in Table 1. CONCLUSIONS Chronic rejection of intestinal allografts is associated with an increase in IEL, AB, mononuclear cell infiltrates, and vasculopathy of mesenteric arteries. These morphologic criteria should permit reliable diagnosis of chronic rejection, which can be confirmed by angiography and mucosal biopsies. REFERENCES
