Abstract

A histological study was done on the skin biopsies of 10 female patients, 4 months after the implantation of at least two gold threads, introduced in the anterior subdermal region of the arm. The presence of a tuberculoid granuloma around the gold thread was evident. As there was considerable production of reticulin in the tuberculoid granuloma, the authors suggest that the presence of this tuberculoid granuloma in a dermoepidermic position which forms a “sleeve-like coating” around the thread would be responsible for skin support and consequent wrinkle reduction.
