Abstract

Abstract The Tutton's salt, Rb2[Cu(H2O)6](SeO4)2 was grown by slow evaporation at room temperature. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c. The unit cell dimensions are: a = 6.363(2) A, b = 12.431(4) A, c = 9.373(4) A, α = γ = 90.00°, β = 104.33(4)°, V = 718.3(5) A3 and Z = 2. The crystals are composed of isolated Cu(H2O)6 octahedral and SeO4 tetrahedrons connected by hydrogen bonds and rubidium cations. The infrared spectra of rubidium hexaaquacopper(II) selenate are presented and discussed. In order to know the intermolecular interactions in the Rb2[Cu(H2O)6](SeO4)2, the analysis of the Hirshfeld surface (HS) and its fingerprint plots was applied.
