Abstract

Youth culture is often marginalized from dominant culture both in academic and public spheres as a subculture. However, it is an indispensable element of human existence and young people are closely associated with and are influenced by it. This article takes hip hop dance, often being negatively linked to youth gangs, anti-social behavior, and crime, as an example to examine and elaborate the benefits of youth subculture. The study may shed light on a critical reflection of the conventional negative attitudes towards youth culture.
