Abstract

• Signal detection models can accommodate confidence post hoc by manipulating criteria, distributions and variances. • This accommodation of confidence findings is not prediction, although hindsight bias may make it seem so. • It is an empirical question whether high confidence misses result from different processes as high confidence false alarms.
