The smallscale croaker Boesemania microlepis (Bleeker 1858) exploitation status on the Bassac river, Mekong Delta was conducted from January to October 2017 through direct interviews with 90 fishing households by using the prepared questionnaire. The results show that the smallscale croaker is exploited all year round on the Bassac river. The fishing season is concentrated from February to April and from July to November (lunar calendar) annually. The smallscale croaker production on the Bassac river is decrease by more than 45% compared to that 5 years ago. The highest average production is in the upstream of the Bassac river, followed by the downstream and the lowest one is in the middle. Smallscale croaker is mainly consumed as unprocessed fish for local traders. The main difficulties of the smallscale croaker exploitation are the decline in production, the fluctuation in price of products, fishermen’s lack of information about the market. Most of the trawl nets fishing households lack the capital to invest in fishing. The erratic change of the weather greatly affected smallscale croaker exploiting production on the Bassac river, Mekong Delta.
