Abstract
Summary form only given. The CT (compact torus) injection experiment, an outgrowth of the FACT gun-spheromak experiment, has begun at the Himeji Institute of Technology. The main goals of the CT injection experiment are to develop a CT injector in order to achieve deep penetration fueling and the steady-state current drive of a tokamak and to examine the dynamics of a CT plasma injected into low-aspect-ratio tokamak-like fields. Of most interest here is the interaction (magnetic reconnection process) between the CT magnetic fields and the strong toroidal field of the tokamak.
